Taking a trip down memory lane, the golden thread of belonging.

Who remembers SNIT: Spicy Nikenya in The City? That blog ran for about two years. I even lost friends over that blog. I know, right! First it was called Single Nikenya in The City, but then I got in a relationship and still wanted to blog, so I changed it to Spicy Nikenya in The City. It was a blog centered around my experiences in Tulsa, OK around singleness and dating. I’ve always been on the fringe of “normal,” if I am being honest with myself. And quite frankly, “normal,” is not my thing. If I show you my birth chart, you would go, “ooohhhh.” I mean, I am a Cancer Sun, Aquarius Moon and Virgo Rising – eccentric, rebel, humanitarian, aloof are just a few adjectives that have been thrown my way. I love to create spaces where a person can find the golden thread that connects them to another person. As I often find myself in spaces where I feel alone, in my perceptions, beliefs and behaviors. I remember when I became comfortable with saying I wasn’t a Christian. I remember going to sex parties and learning about that culture. I remember when I announced I was moving across the country with no job or place to live. I remember when I finally got comfortable saying I prefer primary partner open relationships. I vividly remember turning in my month’s notice at the 9am to 5pm to run my business full time. And, I don’t exactly remember when I felt comfortable saying I talk to dead people, but here we are.

At the end of the day, we have a deep need to just belong – hello Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. And I want you to know – you belong here.
