The Grief Hangover

The Grief Hangover

Have you heard of a Grief hangover? I bet you haven’t but those who have
walked the path of Grief, know it all too well. It is the after effect of the
buildup, experience, and dance with Grief. During the holidays or any
significant date (birthdate, death anniversary, trauma anniversary) your body begin
to gear up for Grief. Grief’s first cousin, Anxiety comes along, and you begin
to become fearful of the actual Grief experience. This pre-Grief period can
begin anywhere from days to two weeks before the actual date you are expecting
Grief.

Then you experience the date in questions. And then, it is the hangover.
Your nervous system, bandwidth and mentals are shot. You have been awaiting
Grief, you experienced Grief and now it is over.

So just breathe. Hydrate. And allow your body to recalibrate to its new
normalcy.

One thing I know for sure and two things I know for certain – Grief will
come and go. Surrender to the waves.
